Check in, find your appointment location, and bring a support person

Use this article to check in for your appointment, confirm where to go, review arrival instructions, and understand when a support person, caregiver, or visitor may come with you. This information applies to most Silent Hill Health appointments, including Brookhaven behavioral health visits, Alchemilla outpatient appointments, emergency follow-up, lab work, imaging, diagnostic testing, specialist referrals, and procedure follow-up.

Your appointment confirmation and portal messages are the best source for day-of instructions. Check them before leaving for the facility, especially if your appointment is tied to an intake, discharge plan, procedure, lab order, imaging order, or referral review.

Note: Entrances, check-in desks, and visitor access may change during emergency department surges, restricted facility access, department closures, lake fog advisories, road access restrictions, or townwide siren events.

Check in online before your visit

Some appointments allow online check-in before you arrive. Online check-in may help confirm your identity, update contact information, verify insurance, complete forms, and review preparation instructions.

To check in online:

  1. Sign in to your Silent Hill Health patient portal:
  2. Go to Appointments, Upcoming visits, or Pre-visit tasks.
  3. Select the appointment you are checking in for.
  4. Choose Check in, Start check-in, or Complete pre-visit tasks.
  5. Review your contact information, insurance, emergency contact, and preferred pharmacy.
  6. Complete any required forms or document uploads.
  7. Review arrival time, entrance, department, and preparation instructions.
  8. Select Submit or Finish check-in.
Tip: Online check-in does not always replace facility check-in. You may still need to stop at registration when you arrive.

When to arrive

Arrival times may vary by appointment type. Check your appointment confirmation for the exact arrival window.

Standard outpatient visit Arrive early enough to complete registration, identity verification, and any remaining forms.
Brookhaven intake Arrive at the time listed in your portal. Intake visits may require privacy review, screening, or additional forms before the appointment begins.
Lab, imaging, or diagnostics Follow the arrival time listed for the testing department. Some appointments require early registration or preparation review.
Procedure follow-up Follow the procedure team’s arrival instructions, especially if the visit includes preparation, dressing review, or medication instructions.
Important: If you are running late, contact the facility as soon as possible. Some appointments may need to be rescheduled if you arrive after the check-in window closes.

Find your appointment location

Your appointment confirmation should list the facility, department, entrance, check-in desk, and arrival instructions. If the location is unclear, contact Scheduling Services before traveling.

Look for these details in your portal:

  • Facility name
  • Department or clinic name
  • Entrance or registration area
  • Floor, wing, or unit information
  • Parking or drop-off notes
  • Whether online check-in is available
  • Any restricted access or visitor instructions
  • Any instructions related to lab work, imaging, diagnostics, or procedures
Note: Do not use service corridors, emergency back corridors, closed wards, archive rooms, or staff-only entrances unless a Silent Hill Health staff member directs you there.

Brookhaven and Alchemilla check-in areas

Check-in instructions may differ depending on whether your appointment is with Brookhaven, Alchemilla, or a shared-care department.

Brookhaven Hospital Check in at the behavioral health intake desk, registration desk, or department listed in your portal. Some visits may require privacy review or intake screening before you are called back.
Alchemilla Hospital Check in at outpatient registration, emergency follow-up registration, diagnostics, radiology, lab services, or the department listed in your appointment instructions.
Shared-care appointment If your care involves both Brookhaven and Alchemilla, follow the facility listed on the appointment confirmation. Bring visit dates, discharge instructions, and any records that may not yet be linked.
Tip: If your portal shows the wrong facility or department, contact Scheduling Services before arriving. Your appointment may need routing review.

Bring a support person or caregiver

A support person, caregiver, guardian, or visitor may be allowed depending on the appointment type, facility policy, privacy requirements, and clinical safety needs. Check your appointment instructions before bringing someone with you.

A support person may help with:

  • Transportation or arrival support
  • Communication support
  • Mobility assistance
  • Remembering instructions
  • Caregiver coordination
  • Check-in support for a minor or dependent patient
  • Emotional support before or after the visit
Important: A support person does not automatically have access to your medical records, portal, billing account, or treatment information. Authorized access must be approved through the correct patient records or portal-access process.

Accessibility, mobility, and service animal needs

If you need accessibility, mobility, communication, or service animal support, add a note to your appointment request or contact Scheduling Services before your visit.

You may request or note:

  • Wheelchair or mobility assistance
  • Accessible entrance or drop-off instructions
  • Communication assistance
  • Hearing or vision support
  • Quiet waiting area consideration, if available
  • Service animal note
  • Caregiver or support-person assistance
  • Extra check-in time for forms, mobility, or registration needs
Note: Some clinical areas may have limited access for visitors or support persons because of privacy, infection control, emergency activity, behavioral health safety, or restricted corridor rules.

Restricted areas and facility access

For patient safety and privacy, some areas of Brookhaven and Alchemilla are restricted. Follow posted signs, staff instructions, and the location details listed in your portal.

Do not enter these areas unless directed by staff:

  • Closed wards
  • Restricted offices
  • Records rooms or archive areas
  • Emergency back corridors
  • Staff-only elevators or stairwells
  • Diagnostic control rooms
  • Procedure preparation areas
  • Behavioral health care areas not listed on your appointment instructions
Tip: If you become lost inside a facility, return to the nearest public registration desk or ask a uniformed staff member for assistance.
